Welcome to the web pages of the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research (FGSR).
The FGSR was established by Saint Mary's University in the spring of 2001 in response to the desire to expand the graduate studies and research activities within the University (see SMU Academic Planning Framework Document). Although SMU has had graduate programs since the late-1950's amongst the Faculties of Arts, Science and Commerce, the FGSR now oversees the 19 Graduate Programs across the University in coordination with these Faculties. Our other mandate is to help facilitate and expand the research capacity of the University. A vibrant research environment is not only the hallmark of any great university, it also enlivens the University experience for all its members (undergraduates, graduate students, Faculty and staff), educates the leaders of tomorrow, serves the needs of society by the expansion of knowledge, and acts as an economic engine for the local, regional, and national community.
Within the FGSR Office, located on the second floor of the Atrium Building, are the Research Grants Officer, the Graduate Studies Officer, the Industry Liaison Officer, the Industry Liaison Coordinator, the Secretary to the Dean, and the Dean of the FGSR.
We hope you find our web pages useful and interesting. Follow the links within this page and in the side bars for information on graduate studies programs and research activities within the University.
